Seismic strengthening with fibre meshes on the internal walls of Palazzo Bellante

Seismic retrofit · Structural safety

A safer home. A stronger future for your property.

Work on existing structures to reduce seismic vulnerability and protect the people who live and work in buildings.

From energy upgrades to structural safety.

For several years ISOLDEN has been carrying out seismic retrofit work, extending its activity in the renovation of existing buildings.

It comes from a conviction: improving a building also means looking after its ability to stand the test of time. Safety is an essential part of quality living.

Why retrofit a building against earthquakes?

A building can look in good shape and still have structural weaknesses. A seismic assessment identifies them so that the right measures can be designed.

Reduce the risk of damage and collapse
Protect the occupants
Limit the economic impact of an earthquake

When should you think about it?

A renovation is the right time to assess safety. A structural check is especially useful when:

  • the building dates from a time with less up-to-date seismic standards;
  • there is deterioration, cracking or structural alteration;
  • major work on the roof, floors or walls is planned;
  • openings, loads or the use of the building are to change;
  • the residential block is planning a comprehensive renovation.

How the work is done

Every building needs its own solution, depending on materials, layout and the weaknesses found. Effective work starts with an accurate diagnosis.

Masonry strengthening

Glass or carbon fibre meshes (FRP) and thin reinforced plasters, compatible with historic masonry.

Connectors and anchors

Transverse and fan connectors that make the masonry work as a single element.

Wall-to-floor connections

Improve the building’s “box-like” behaviour under seismic action.

Beams, columns, floors

Carbon fibre wrapping and localised strengthening of structural members.

Improvement is measured, building by building.

Assessment before and after the work documents its effectiveness: engineers compare safety indicators and, where required, the seismic risk class. The result depends on the starting structure and the work carried out.

The benefits

  • Better protection for people
  • A less vulnerable structure
  • Less expected damage and lower repair costs
  • Lower risk of having to leave the building
  • Documented structural performance
  • A more attractive property on the market

Safety and energy efficiency, together.

Where compatible, structural and energy works can be planned together: same scaffolding, same access, less disruption and organisational savings. With our ISOPONT scaffolding and external insulation, we handle it all.

Sismabonus

Sismabonus: what you can save in 2026

For eligible expenses incurred in 2026, Italian national law provides for:

Main residence (owners or holders of a real right meeting the requirements)50%
Other eligible cases36%

For 2027, current law provides for 36% and 30% respectively.

An example on €40,000 of eligible expenses

Deduction50%36%
Expenditure€40,000€40,000
Theoretical tax benefit€20,000€14,400
Theoretical net cost€20,000€25,600

Theoretical calculation assuming all requirements are met and the deduction can be used in full; it is recovered over the years set by law. Eligibility depends on the building, seismic zone, beneficiary and technical and tax requirements: check with your tax adviser. Read the article

Reinforcement is always designed by a qualified structural engineer. ISOLDEN carries out the work according to the structural design, with great care in execution.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

They are different technical goals: improvement increases existing safety, upgrading brings the building up to the level required for new construction. The structural engineer decides which is needed.

It depends on the intervention. Many reinforcements are carried out in sections or from outside; we agree this with the engineer when planning the site.

A qualified structural engineer. ISOLDEN carries out the work to the design and coordinates with the site manager.

Yes, when the design allows it. Coordinating the works reduces scaffolding costs, time and disruption.

A strengthened, documented structure makes a property more attractive, but the effect must be assessed on the local market case by case. Be wary of standard percentages.
